In this enlightening, self-help guide to overcoming your fears and phobias, Kalliope Barlis, takes her readers on an instructional pathway, in 𝘗𝘩𝘰𝘣𝘪𝘢 𝘙𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘧: 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘍𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘍𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘰𝘮. Using the action-oriented nature and focus of NLP and coaching, Kalliope provides us with simple, clear and concise steps, encouraging us to adopt a new and uncomplicated way of thinking. The techniques can be used almost immediately, bringing relief to those trapped in the endless cycle of fear.

Feelings are one of our strongest senses and can drive us to addiction as we struggle with the intensity of them. Our minds are capable of tricking us into believing that what we are feeling and seeing cannot be changed and we become overwhelmed. As we learn to manage our fears by changing how we think, we discover that our fears are mostly unreasonable and those same fears can be replaced with magical moments as we begin to see that our lives have a sense of new purpose.

NLP began in 1975 when Dr Richard Bandler coauthored his thesis, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤, with John Grinder. It offers the foundational knowledge of how people experience the world and how they represent their inner world is often revealed in their language, Who you are and what you do can change, based on how you think. We discover that people are born with only two fears: the fear of loud noise and falling; the rest we learn to our detriment.

The simple exercises provided by the author are easy to comprehend and I found that the book was both impactful and enlightening in its substance. I benefitted from using some of the techniques and am determined to be consistent with the exercises. Shifting my memory bank to something more positive was a brilliant move which I’ll continue to practice with relish. I was inspired by this thoughtful and engaging read and although I noticed several minor errors, they did not detract from my overall reading enjoyment. I have no hesitation in awarding this exceptional book a full star rating of 5 out of five stars.

This book should be compulsory bedtime reading for those of us struggling with fear and will provide relief for phobias that can hamper us moving forward with our lives. I highly recommend it to anyone keen to advance to a more meaningful and joyful existence with a sense of purpose as you gain control of your thoughts; reversing the negativity, and liberating us to live our very best lives.
