In ‘Searching for Zen’ A Tale of Divine Destiny by Albert T. Franklin, we are taken on a fantastical journey to a fantasy world intertwined with science-fiction. The story begins with our protagonist Zen, a boy from humble beginnings whose future is mapped out for him: his divine destiny awaits amidst a backdrop of an earth steeped in illusion. Zen has special powers that allow him to control the elements, see into a person’s soul, read their thoughts and experience their past hurts, rendering him a recluse and isolated in a world that has lost its soul.
Zen matures and builds unusual relationships on his sojourn through life, creating a tag-along family as he progresses. His special powers, combined with his ability to love and forgive and form friendships, endear him to others and enable him to form a bond with Mary. Sadly, their love for one another remains unrequited and the battles continue unresolved.
I found this soul-enriching and exploratory read, delightful on every level and have no hesitation in recommending it to those who enjoy the genre and those looking for something original and out of the ordinary.
