Ingiete Oyama, in her beautifully written, self-help guide, 𝘔𝘺 𝘚𝘱𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦, 𝘔𝘺 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥, offers readers an invaluable resource, using biblical principles and text throughout her book to guide us through the complexities of married life and beyond. As a wife and mother of five children, with a wealth of academic achievements, her passions lean heavily toward helping others.

A master’s degree in counselling, child and adolescent welfare and occupational health, more than qualifies the author to provide a wealth of expertise to her readers. Although the book is written from a faith-based perspective, the practical advice and real-life examples are easily accessible. They will provide insight to anyone contemplating marriage or married couples seeking advice. The author provides helpful counsel on many topics, including how to get along with in-laws and the importance of financial planning.

The book focuses on the relationship between husband and wife with God as the guiding hand, as It unapologetically references the many ways we can navigate our way through the challenges we face. I found that at times the book favoured the male perspective and I disagreed with some of the references, however, I’m glad that I read the book as it is insightful and informative and a wonderful reference to turn to when in need of counsel.

Our greatest prize is to have a happy, fulfilling and committed marriage but if it’s not handled with care and worked on relentlessly, it’s destined to fall apart. The author believes that before you commit to anyone you should commit to God first and foremost and explains in detail the importance of keeping the vow and investing 100 percent of your time and all that you have into the marriage.

The author’s deep theological grasp of the Holy Bible is admirable and helped me to understand and acknowledge certain aspects of my marriage. I found the answers to my questions easily obtainable, clear and concise and I commend the author for the way in which she puts this across. The book was well-edited and the impactful content deserves no less than five out of five stars. There was nothing that I could find fault with and highly recommend it to those who may be considering marriage or those whose marriage needs some guidance.
